Introduction to Cave Diving Course
Requirements and Limits

  • Cavern diver certification
  • Course duration approximately two days
  • Texts - NSS-CDS Cavern manual and Basic Cave Diving- Blueprint for Survival
  • Course includes lectures, land drills and four limited penetration cave dives
  • Limits - Penetrations are simple, linear swims limited to 1/3 of a single tank. 100 ft. maximum depth, 30 ft minimum visibility, no decompression diving
  • Equipment - dual orifice (Y or H) valve tank (71.2 CF minimum).
  • Two (2) single hose regulators, one with a 7ft. hose, SPG, octopus second stage and power inflator for BC
  • Three (3) battery powered dive lights, one with at least 30 watt power
  • Safety reel with minimum of 75 ft. line
  • Watch, depth gauge, slate, pencil, submersible dive tables and three (3) line markers
  • One primary cave diving reel with approximately 400 ft. of guideline per team
