Cavern Diver Course Requirements and Limits

  • Open water certification with a minimum of 25 logged dives
  • Texts - NSS-CDS Cavern manual and Basic Cave Diving- Blueprint for Survival
  • Course includes lectures, land drills and three cavern dives
  • Limits - daylight and free ascent zone of cavern, maximum depth not to exceed 70 ft., max. penetration 130 ft. linear distance from surface
  • Equipment - tank (50.0 CF minimum), single hose regulator with a 7 ft. hose, submersible pressure gauge, octopus second stage and power inflator for BC
  • BC, 5 to 7 mm wet suit or dry suit, dive tables, slate and pencil, weight and knife
  • Two submersible lights, one with at least 30 watt power, one cavern reel, watch and depth gauge per team
